Greek
Variable
Standard
Welcome!
I specialize in making high quality t-shirt quilts made from your
old shirts, sweatshirts and jerseys. T-Shirt quilts make great gifts
for graduates, runners, or anyone who has more t-shirts than they
can use. Each t-shirt quilt is individually signed and numbered. My
goal is to be sure you get the quilt you want, so if you have any
special concerns or questions please feel free to contact me. Thank
you for visiting me on the web. I hope you will find all the
information you need here about my T-shirt quilts.
***NEW*** Greek Quilt
Many of my customers make quilts from College Greek Shirts. These
young people put a great deal of time, thought, and effort into
their college activities. Most greek activity shirts feature a
large graphic on the back and a smaller one on the front with the
actual date of the event. For these shirts I have a special quilt
available. It features the large graphics on the body of the quilt
and the smaller ones in a border around the outside. With this
format none of the dates are lost when the quilt is made.
Three quilt styles
I make these t-shirt quilts in two styles, variable and standard.
The variable quilt is a great contemporary looking quilt with shirts
cut in different sizes. This style is great if you have shirts that
vary widely in size, if you have been cutting your shirts over the
years, or if you just like a very modern look. I also do a standard
style quilt with all the shirts cut to the same size square. This is
a classic style that will always look great. It’s simple style will
never go out of fashion. There is also the NEW Greek Quilt I
mentioned above.
How the basic quilt is put together.
To make a t-shirt quilt, each shirt is cut into a square centered
around the graphic. The squares are backed to make them nice and
sturdy. The shirts are arranged in a grid and trimmed with a small
print or solid fabric of your choice. This makes the quilt top. The
top is then stacked on a batting and backing. I hand tie the layers
together with square knots to keep them from shifting. You can also
upgrade to a machine stitched t-shirt quilt.
Fabric Selections
I like to give my customers the opportunity to select their own
fabrics for sashing and backing on the quilts. In the price list
page is a breakdown of what you need. This may seem like a big
choice to make but there are a great many styles and colors
available and I do not want to limit you to two or three options. I
can also select the fabric for you. Please let me know what colors
you would like and I will get as close to it as I can. Your final
bill re reflect a cost of $60.00 for any fabric I buy.
Hand tied vs. Machine Stitched
I offer machine stitched and hand tied quilts. The base price on my
price list includes the hand tied option. Both are lovely on a
quilt. The hand tied quilts are done using embroidery floss with
colors to match the background of each knot. Hand tying is really
easier on the shirts because it does not puncture the fabric as many
times as the stitching. This is especially important on older, more
fragile shirts. The machine stitching is more modern looking and
does not have the hand made look. In order to do the machine
stitching properly an industrial quilting machine is required. These
machines cost as much as a small car and that is why the quilts cost
a little more.
